Park Ranger (P)

Supervision is provided by the Lodgepole Subdistrict Ranger. Major duties include law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, and structural fire. SAR and EMS activity levels are high during the summer season. Lodgepole also has an active structural fire program. Resource management and protection programs are varied and include wilderness management and bear management. Lodgepole can get several feet of snow in the winter (typically snow starts in November) and can still have snow on the ground into May or June. The Lodgepole Rangers may participate in monthly snow surveys during the winter. These range from an area near the road up to a full day ski/snowshoe trip. Winter duties include coordinating with the road crew and checking and updating road conditions. For those interested and qualified, SEKI has the following active special programs:
helicopter short-haul evacuations, technical/high-angle SAR, multi-operational period wilderness search operations, marijuana special operations, single and multi-day cross-country snow surveys, FLETC Field Training Officer, and Park Medic.Long periods of surveillance work may be required in cramped locations and under unpleasant conditions. Incumbent is required to operate motor vehicles and may be required to fly in rotary-wing aircraft. Required Occupancy:
As determined by park management and approved by the Regional Director, the specific duties performed by this position require the incumbent's physical presence within a specific geographic area to provide a quick response time during off-duty hours to emergencies involving human life, safety and/or protection of park resources. As a result of performing these specific duties the incumbent of this position is required to reside in Government housing. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Promotion to the full performance level is not guaranteed and will be based on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor. Per the Department of the Interior Drug-Free and Alcohol-Free Workplace Plan this position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received. For applicants applying under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act at the GL-07 level, an additional assessment will be required at a later time in order to fulfill the Administrative Careers with America testing requirement. Must currently possess, previously held (within the past three years), or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Type II or higher National Park Service Law Enforcement Commission, or equivalent, by entrance on duty date. More information can be found in the 'Education' section of this job announcement. This is a primary position covered by enhanced retirement provisions which stipulate mandatory retirement at age 57 after 20 years of service. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, and must not have reached their 37th birthday upon appointment to this position. Two exceptions are allowed:
1) an applicant has prior Federal service in a primary covered position sufficient to complete 20 years of service on or before the mandatory retirement age of 57; or 2) an applicant is a qualified veterans' preference eligible, in which case the MEA is waived and their corresponding retirement age may be higher than 57 after completing 20 years of service. Must currently possess, or be able to obtain, and maintain a National Registry or State Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification by close of the announcement. Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience performing law enforcement duties for the protection, conservation, use, and management of natural and/or cultural resources in park areas or similar operations, which involved the application of law enforcement authorities and procedures to protect visitors and resources. You must include hours per week worked. EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least one full academic year of graduate education in a directly-related field such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement, police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. One year of full time graduate education is defined as 18 semester hours. You must include transcripts. I have a bachelor's degree AND Superior Academic Achievement. (Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. (1) Class standing--Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. (2) Grade-point average (G.P.A.)--Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
(A) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (B) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B+ or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
