Telecommunications Specialist

This position works under the supervision of the Regional Telecommunications Manager, along with daily oversight and work assignments provided by senior Telecommunications Specialist. This position is an entry level position. The incumbent will perform the duties of the developmental level position at a reduced level of responsibility and/or difficulty as described below while receiving on the job, trainee assignments or appropriate training. Assignments are designed to prepare the incumbent to perform the duties and of the duties and responsibilities of the developmental level of the position. Configuring, installing repairing radio communications systems under time pressure to support day-to-day communication and incident response readiness. Support equipment including two-way radio, repeaters, telephone, data transmission systems involving routers and switches, and other components with audio/video capability; Incumbent climbs communication towers to perform standard maintenance of antennas and Coax/Heliax/Waveguide runs to Radio System equipment installed at various locations. Maintains lightning protection, surge suppression, and grounding equipment for communications systems. Works with senior Telecommunications Specialist to learn standard operating practices. Duties include installation and maintenance of all telecommunications systems/services required to support wild land and structural fire operation and law enforcement operations, including 911 emergency dispatch. Incumbent maintains and performs basic services on a variety of simple to moderately complex electronic equipment, systems and devices; All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement . Basic Requirements for Telecommunications Specialist GS-0391:
An undergraduate (or graduate) education equivalent to a bachelor's degree with major study in telecommunications management, electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, information systems management or other fields directly related to the position to be filled. You must include transcripts. -OR- The amount and type of specialized experience that is equivalent to a bachelor's degree in scope and depth (four or more years) that required evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that required troubleshooting, testing, and repairing components of radio communications system. (note:
Clerk, Assistant or Technician level work (i.e.- Radio Technician) at the GS-05 level does NOT qualify for this position, however GS 6 level would). This experience includes activities such as:
configuring, installing repairing radio communications systems under time pressure to support day-to-day communication and incident response readiness. I supported equipment including two-way radio, repeaters, telephone, data transmission systems involving routers and switches, and other components with audio/video capability; and communicating effectively orally and in writing. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at 1 year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's Degree (18 semester/27 quarter hours or the number your school uses to represent three academic years of full-time graduate study) in telecommunications management, electrical or electronic engineering, computer science mathematics, information systems management, physics, public utilities, statistics, or a directly related field. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. You must include hours per week worked and transcripts. OR I have a bachelor's degree AND Superior Academic Achievement. (Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. (1) Class standing--Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. (2) Grade-point average (G.P.A.)--Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
(A) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (B) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B+ or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. These honor societies are listed in the Association of College Honor Societies:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
