Supervisory Interdisciplinary (General Engineer, Landscape Architect, Architect)

This position serves as the Deputy Chief of Maintenance and Construction at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, two of the largest (865,000 acres), most visited (annual visitation 1.6 million) and most complex units of the National Park Service. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks represent an extraordinary continuum of ecosystems (96% designated wilderness) arrayed along the greatest vertical relief (1,370 to 14,505 feet elevation) of any protected area in the lower 48 states. Responsibilities include overall management of the park's program to develop environmentally compatible programs, projects and designs for construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and operation of all NPS facilities and to assume the role of Chief of Park Facilities and Construction in absence of Chief. These facilities include 381 non-historic buildings and structures; 150 housing units and 20 trailer sites; 113 historic structures; 13 developed campgrounds with 1207 sites, 11 picnic areas with 128 picnic tables; 3 amphitheaters with 700 seats, 4 sanitary dump stations; 142 miles of paved roads, 15 major road bridges, and 45 miles of dirt roads; 15 paved parking lots with 2,502 marked parking sites; 22 water systems (processing over 40 million gallons of potable water year) and (4) Class III wastewater systems and over 30 septic and vault systems; 866 miles of front country and wilderness trails, 21 major trail bridges; and a fleet consisting of 247 vehicles, of which 90 are considered heavy construction and snow removal equipment. Supervises an interdisciplinary staff composition of professional Engineers and Architects General Schedule employees, providing park level ten year planning, design, project management and professional engineering services for individual projects, responsible for park program management of project funding programs Repair/Rehab, Line Item and Federal Highways. Position advises and guides park management, as well as other divisions, and outside entities, through the process of planning/design/engineering and construction management on major development initiatives throughout the parks, over the course of multiple year programs. Interdisciplinary position may be filled in any of the following series. Candidates must meet at least one of the Basic Requirements below and Specialized Experience Requirements. Basic Requirements for Landscape Architect, GS-0807 Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in landscape architecture or landscape design. -OR- A combination of education and experience-for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had one year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design. Non-degree applicants typically must have experience or study that includes site planning; layout of circulation patterns; grading and drainage plans; planting plans; collaboration with architects and/or engineers; and the supervision or review of landscape construction. Basic Requirements for Architect, GS-0808 Successful completion of a degree in architecture, or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following:
structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. -OR- A combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following:
Related Curriculum-Degree in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in paragraph A. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. The courses required for a degree in architecture generally place emphasis upon planning, esthetics, and materials and methods of construction, while the courses for an architectural engineering degree place equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. Experience-An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have had 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. Basic Requirements for General Engineer, GS-0801 Successful completion of a degree in professional engineering. To be acceptable, the program must:
(1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics:
(a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. -OR- A combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
Professional registration or licensure-Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. Written Test-Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Specific academic courses-Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described above. Related curriculum-Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
1)manage a wide variety of large construction projects from planning, design through construction phases in a wide geographic area and varied climatic conditions; 2) negotiate with and manage the work of architectural and engineering (A/E) consultants for facility management projects; 3) serve as Contracting Officers' Technical Representative (or similar) on construction projects conducting inspections of work performed and ensuring projects meet building code compliance requirements; and 4) maintain and manage daily worksite activities, project schedule to ensure worker safety, and budgets and deadlines for construction projects. You must include hours per week worked. SELECTIVE FACTOR:
Professional Engineering or Architecture license. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
