Visitor Services Assistant (Senior Information Services Assistant)

The primary purpose of the position is to provide orientation and information to assist visitors in making choices during their visit. The work involves providing non-recurring information on a regular basis, regarding natural, historic, and cultural features, answering questions, and providing visitor information services. Major duties include:
Resource Orientation - Incumbent provides public orientation and explanations of current park events, resource management projects, management policies and legislative updates on issues affecting the natural, historical and/or cultural preservation of the area. Providing Information and Guidance - Incumbent will:
respond to emails regarding trip planning, current conditions, safety and best practices; Inform visitors of potential safety hazards; and provide directions and routes of travel through the park. Visitor Information Services - May provide support to interpretive and other program personnel such as assisting with special event setup and take down. The selectee may be the first and only park employee that visitors have contact with. The goal is to have positive interactions with the thousands of people who email, call and write each year. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). My specialized experience includes providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to prepare reports. My experience includes using software programs; such as, word processing, spreadsheet, or database (e.g., Excel, Access, Word, or similar operating systems). You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE:
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to one year of specialized experience. For example, I have six months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and three years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) that equals 100% of the total requirement. Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies, intermittent or full-time. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
