Wildland Fire Operations Technician

This position serves as a key fire management position in a field fire management organization as Wildland Fire Operations Technician. The primary purpose of this position is to provide operational oversight and planning of wildland fire suppression activities, and specialized expertise in assigned area. The position also may serve as Duty Officer (DO) for days which staffing level is III or II. The DO has the responsibility to assess all reports of wildland fire and determine, initiate and oversee the appropriate response. The Duty Officer is responsible for assuring that all actions provide for wildland firefighter and public safety and address values to be protected, commensurate with the Park's Fuels and Fire Management Plan. Position performs and supervises employees in a variety of fire management positions such as:
fire prevention, structural fire, preparedness, detection, resource rehabilitation, mobilization, prescribed fire, aviation operations and training programs. This position has been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program management (IFPM) Standard. This position has been categorized as a Wildland Fire Operations Specialist and requires selectee to meet the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position. The applicant must have possessed all of the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position:
1. Division Supervisor (DIVS) OR Air Support Group Supervisor (ASGS) 2. Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3) OR Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2) Candidates must possess a minimum of 90-days of wildland firefighting experience, gained through fire line work in containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire. You must clearly demonstrate this experience in your resume, including the months, days and hours per week at which the work was performed in order to be considered. - AND - Applicants must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience could include:
(1) personally performing in Wildland Fire Engine Operations, and at least one of the following wildland fire-fighting functions:
Initial attack and Fire-line Suppression Operations; Prescribed Fire Operations; Helitack Operations; and (2) personally leading or supervising others in any two of the following functions:
initial attack and suppression hand-crew operations; prescribed fire operations; wildland fire engine crew operations; helitack fire crew operations; providing on-the-job training and conducting daily crew briefings, safety sessions, and/or other basic wildland fire training. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least a Masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D, in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position. Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies, part-time or intermittent. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
