Dispatcher (Public Safety)

The incumbent serves as a Dispatcher for a Public Safety Communications Center that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Center provides primary telecommunication and logistical support for day-to-day non-emergency communications and complex all-risk incidents including law enforcement, emergency medical dispatch, search and rescue, structural fire, and 9-1-1 services to the public. Such support is for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Channel Islands National Park, Pinnacles National Park, and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The Center also provides secondary law enforcement telecommunications, information gathering and dissemination for the other federal agencies including:
US Forest Service personnel assigned to the Sequoia and Sierra National Forests, Sequoia National Monument, and Bureau of Land Management personnel assigned to the Bakersfield Field Unit and Redding Field Unit. Major Duties include:
Receives and evaluates all 9-1-1 telephone calls or other public emergency calls. Determines priority of response and initiates appropriate response of law enforcement, emergency medical, search and rescue, and fire suppression personnel. Performs general Communications Center duties such as filing, typing, copying, scanning, maintaining updated weather information, shredding of designated paperwork, processing mail-in violations notices, or providing copies of case incident reports to authorized individuals or entities. Enters and accesses information in the park incident reporting system to complete required reports and assist in investigations. Safeguards confidential information. Information of this type includes criminal history information, details of investigations in progress, and details pertaining to the movement of visiting dignitaries. Ensures the security of the NCIC terminal and related documents assigned to the Communications Center in compliance with NCIC standards. Using judgment, initiative, and through training, coordinates and initiates appropriate emergency responses to emergency and non-emergency situations. Thorough knowledge of an accepted risk management system, promotes the safety of emergency and non-emergency responders and the visiting public by assessing the needs of each call for assistance individually and initiating an appropriate response to limit the severity of the situation. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. SELECTIVE FACTOR:
This position requires the skill of a qualified typist. To qualify, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute (based on a five-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors). Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualification by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience include:
perform dispatch duties for wildland fire, police or fire departments, or other emergency services including receiving, filling & tracking requests, providing logistical support information, recording & maintaining records & communications logs. You must include hours per week worked. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualification by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience include:
perform dispatch duties for wildland fire, police or fire departments, or other emergency services including receiving, filling & tracking requests, providing logistical support information, recording & maintaining records & communications logs. May also include coordination with others on mobilization, reassignment and demobilization of resources. You must include hours per week worked. There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade levels of this announcement. Volunteer

One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies, part-time or intermittent. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
